Tommy Jay Brownson is an up-and-coming soul-pop artist brings a style that blends the fresh and the familiar. Strong melodies and carefully-contrived lyrics float on top of tight grooves. The result is a sound that allows for unique listeners to make their own connections – leading some to hark back to the works of classic legends like Bill Withers and Steely Dan and others to think of modern giants like John Mayer and Jason Mraz.
Tommy sings of humanity, of our blind wanderings through romance – of our strengths and our shortcomings – a blending of the introspective and the outward-reaching. Coming from California’s bustling Bay Area and having lived in rural Oregon and even for a short while in the middle-east metropolis of Dubai, this marriage of the small details and big pictures seems almost inevitable. Having worked for years as an accomplished instrumentalist, Tommy Jay Brownson draws on the many styles he’s had the fortune to play professionally, including Jazz, Funk, Hip-hop, R&B, Pop, Country, Rock, Rockabilly, and Blues among others.
In November 2019, with a crew of talented musicians and producers, Tommy Jay Brownson began the recording of an unnamed new album to be released in 2020.
