16 Feb – Clay Play & Non-Attachment

Non-attachment, also expressed as detachment, is a state in which a person overcomes his or her attachment to desire for things, people or concepts of the world and thus attains a heightened perspective.

In each of these two-hour workshops we’ll create a vessel by hand using clay as our medium. All instructions will be given in English. This workshop is a two-fold exercise in learning about clay and a lesson in non-attachment.

There are four sessions in this workshop series beginning with pinch pots, next is coil pots, slabs, and the last session is free form. This is the second session we’ll focus on the coil pot.

Coiling is a method of creating pottery. It has been used to shape clay into vessels for many thousands of years. It ranges from Africa to Greece and from China to New Mexico. They have used this method in a variety of ways. Using the coiling technique, it is possible to build thicker or taller walled vessels, which may not have been possible using earlier methods.

Each session is independent and stands alone. You may attend one session, two, three or all four. Each session is 10€ per person. This pays for the clay and alcohol.
