Kelly Miller has been writing and playing music since 2003. Starting out in the small, smoke-filled venues of San Antonio, TX as a solo artist, he quickly attached himself, and helped revive, the then struggling singer-songwriter music scene in a town oozing with Punk.
Kelly Miller quickly joined forces with Ross Renker, Emanuel Meza, and Sophie Severence to create the band Middle Ground- an Alt-Country/Americana group which highlighted Miller’s singer-songwriter and folk background.
Middle Ground’s music, based on the song-writing of Miller, was a local mainstay on the San Antonio and Austin music scene for almost a decade. The style of their music was greatly influenced by artists such as Bob Dylan, The Band, and Bruce Springsteen. Renker’s cello and Severence’s violin, along with Meza’s multi-talented role as lead guitarist/mandolin created a unique sound and suited the story-telling of Miller’s lyrics.
Voted best Americana group in San Antonio in 2008 and 2009, they shared the stage with artists such as Spoon, The Gourds, Monty Montgomery, Girl in A Coma, Blowing Trees, The Hussy Hicks and The Weary Boys. The group toured all corners of Texas along with a national tour up and down the East Coast. The group released two albums, one self-titled, and two years later, Rooted.
During his time with the group, Miller also continued as a solo artist; writing songs like To Build a House- a story about the disconnect between generational expectations, and Cold Country Air- on its surface, a typical song about heartache, but, in fact, a description of the inability to remove our masks and show our true selves.
Miller released his own album Easy Trouble in the Spring of 2006. He has collaborated with Texas artists such as Chris King and Eric Geyer, as well as working alongside well-known producers Jeff Reinsfelder (Bauhaus Productions) and Alberto Chapa (Pinche Cuerpo/Albeton). Throughout this period, he hosted an award-winning Singer-songwriter open mic at one of the premier music venues in San Antonio, TX. More recently, he has continued to collaborate with his brother’s group JR in and around upstate New York.

A lo largo de ese periodo organizó también una galardonada noche de micrófono abierto para cantautores en uno de los principales locales musicales de San Antonio, Texas. En los últimos tiempos, se ha dedicado a colaborar con el grupo de su hermano, JR, en y al norte del estado de Nueva York.
