On Saturday, October 21st Robyn and Michael offer a BBG Workshop & Lunch – a practical and inspiring course on how to maximize your creative powers and live successfully as an independent artist in the music and/or film world.

Bright Blue Gorilla was born in 1990, when Robyn & Michael quit their L.A. jobs, sold everything they had (except their guitars), and bought one-way tickets to Amsterdam. (It was the cheapest ticket – $199 one-way!) BBG played in streets, cafes, concert halls, and worked their way up the artistic ladder. They began recording & distributing CDs, and touring worldwide. In 2005 they began writing-directing-producing feature films. How does all this add up? BBG has made 6 feature films, 12 CDs and over 4000 live performances!

Bright Blue Gorilla nació en 1990, cuando Robyn y Michael dejaron sus trabajos en L.A., vendieron todo (salvo las guitarras) y compraron billetes de ida para Ámsterdam. (Era el más barato: ¡199 dólares el trayecto!). BBG empezó actuando en la calle, en cafeterías y salas de concierto, ascendiendo peldaño a peldaño por la escalera de la música. Empezaron a grabar y distribuir CD y a ir de gira por todo el mundo. En 2005 comenzaron a escribir, dirigir y producir largometrajes. ¿Y cuál ha sido el resultado? ¡BBG cuenta a sus espaldas con 6 largometrajes, 12 CD y más de 4000 actuaciones en directo!

Bright Blue Gorilla has released 12 CDs in various countries & configurations. Aside from CDs and live in concert, BBG has a lot of music in films & TV. Of course you’ll find BBG music in all the BBG movies. BBG songs are also in other film & TV shows like Dawson’s Creek, The Last Shot, Plain Jane, 100 Girls, and Freaky Links. Nokia also used BBG music in one of their commercials. (The commercial inspired the BBG song: “Raymond talks to the dead on his Nokia…”) 

Bright Blue Gorilla ha publicado 12 CD en varios países y con diversas formas. Además de sus álbumes y conciertos en vivo, BBG ha colocado mucha de su música en películas y televisión. What can you expect at a Bright Blue Gorilla show? Beautiful vocal harmonies, lots of laughs, songs to inspire the soul, stories and comedy improvisation. BBG uses acoustic guitars, mini guitar, bongos, mystical drum, harmonium, tablas, harmonica, flute, and any strange instrument they can get their hands on!

Now it’s 2017 and Bright Blue Gorilla is on tour in USA & Europe for the release of Mr. Rudolpho’s Jubilee! BBG is touring with Rudolpho in the U.S. this summer, and in Europe in fall. ¡Ya estamos en 2017 y Bright Blue Gorilla está de gira por EE. UU. y Europa con motivo del lanzamiento de Mr. Rudolpho’s Jubilee! BBG recorrió Estados Unidos con Rudolpho este verano, y ahora le toca a Europa en otoño. Para principios de 2018 tienen previsto ir a Australia y Nueva Zelanda. MR. RUDOLPHO’S JUBILEE

Emmy winner Christiane Paul joins Francesco Mazzini and a strong ensemble cast in Mr. Rudolpho’s Jubilee. Mr. Rudolpho is an Italian fashion designer: Rich, famous, and depressed. Surrounded by luxury, monitored 24/7 by a security team, hated by the CEO of Rudolpho Inc., he’s a prisoner of success. Rudolpho’s been sketching something in his moleskin book for months, but nobody knows what it is. Turns out he’s making plans for suicide. Good timing, because the CEO is planning to bump him off. Rudolpho heads to Berlin for Fashion Week to end it all, with the killers not far behind. 

But, this being a Bright Blue Gorilla film, things don’t always go as planned… He’s thrown in with some off-the-grid artists – the Boheems – who have no idea who he is. Thinking he’s destitute, they invite him to stay. Meanwhile, cops, killers, reporters, and Interpol all search for him. Rudolpho, happy in his hide-out, is hanging with the Boheems – and maybe falling for one of them… MRJ is a surreal comedy romance, told by two “Musical Angels”, aka Bright Blue Gorilla as the Greek Chorus. Part screwball comedy, part hippie musical, with a pinch of cop-show thrown in for flavor, Mr. Rudolpho’s Jubilee deliciously mixes up form and mashes up genre. 

La ganadora de un Emmy Christiane Paul colabora con Francesco Mazzini y un sólido reparto de secundarios en Mr. Rudolpho’s Jubilee. Mr. Rudolpho es un diseñador de moda italiano rico, famoso y deprimido. Rodeado de lujo, vigilado las 24 horas por un equipo de seguridad, odiado por el consejero delegado de Rudolpho Inc., es víctima de su propio éxito. Rudolpho lleva meses esbozando algo en su cuaderno de notas, pero nadie sabe qué es. Resulta que está preparando su suicidio. Y no podría ser en mejor momento, porque el consejero delegado planea quitárselo de en medio. Rudolpho se dirige a la Semana de la Moda de Berlín para poner ahí fin a todo con los asesinos pisándole los talones. 

Pero, siendo esto una película de Bright Blue Gorilla, está claro que las cosas no siempre salen como se planean… Acaba dando con unos artistas clandestinos, los Boheems, que no tienen ni idea de quién es él. Pensando que está en la ruina, le invitan a quedarse con ellos. Mientras, la policía, los asesinos, la prensa y la Interpol lo buscan por todas partes. Rudolpho, tan feliz en su escondite, disfruta de la compañía de los Boheems y puede que incluso se esté enamorando… MRJ es una comedia romántica surrealista narrada por dos «ángeles musicales», es decir Bright Blue Gorilla, a modo de coro griego. Mitad comedia de enredo, mitad musical hippie, y con un toque de peli policíaca, Mr. Rudolpho’s Jubilee mezcla y fusiona deliciosamente formas y géneros.

Every Bright Blue Gorilla movie is a labor of love. You can get a sense of the the fun & supportive atmosphere at BBG shoots in the “making of” videos found in the end-credits of all their films. The cast and crew put a lot of creative energy into the projects – and they have a great time doing it. Michael writes, directs & edits, and Robyn produces. BBG started making movies after they got a Hollywood break: appearing in the Alec Baldwin film, The Last Shot. (During this time Michael was working as dailies editor for the MTV show, The Osbournes – where he learned to edit.) During The Last Shot, inspiration struck and Michael wrote the screenplay for their 1st film, Sister Sarah’s Sky. Script in hand, Robyn and Michael decided to take their paycheck from “The Last Shot”, buy a movie camera, and shoot their debut feature.

El amor que Bright Blue Gorilla pone a cada una de sus películas resulta palpable. Es fácil hacerse una idea de la atmósfera divertida y solidaria de sus rodajes en los vídeos «cómo se hizo» que acompañan a los créditos finales de todas sus películas. El elenco y el equipo aportan muchísima energía creativa los proyectos y se lo pasan en grande haciéndolo. Michael escribe, dirige y edita, mientras que Robyn se encarga de la producción. BBG empezaron a hacer películas tras recibir su primera oportunidad en Hollywood, apareciendo en la película de Alec Baldwin «La última escena». (Por aquella época, Michael trabajaba de editor de las tomas diarias en el programa de MTV «The Osbournes», y ahí aprendió editar). La inspiración le llegó mientras trabajaba en «La última escena», y el resultado fue el guion de su primera película, «Sister Sarah’s Sky». Con el guion en la mano, Robyn y Michael decidieron usar lo ganado en «La última escena» para comprar una cámara y filmar su debut cinematográfico.
