Ocean of Spirit

by David Kano

Ocean of Spirit by David Kano is a palm-sized art book containing a single poem. Each line of the poem is on it’s own page which opens out in a unique way, illustrating the metaphor and to encouraging the reader to slow down… taking the poem in one line at a time.

The book uses metaphorical language, photographic images and a unique physical design to promote the paradigmn or “world view” of unity. This is the Buddhist view taught for thousands of years that everyone and everything are really “one.” It is also now being confirmed by modern physics. John Hagelin, Ph.D, Professor of Physics and Director of the Institute of Science, Technology and Public Policy at Maharishi Universary states, “The universe is fundamentally unified, and superficially diversified.” Albert Einstein said,

“A human being is part of a whole, called by us the ‘Universe,’ a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest – a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”

The main goal of this project is to help people move in that direction.
